DESCRIPTION:On Monday 30th September 2013\, Mercedes Gimeno-Segovia took pa
rt in Kingsbury High School’s STEM Day.\nMercedes is a Research Postgrad
uate in the Physics Department at Imperial College London. Her research fo
cuses on Quantum Computation\; a new paradigm of computation that exploits
the non-classical features of quantum systems. She was invited to attend
Kingsbury High School’s STEM Day to speak to students about her research
and her career path to date.\nAt the event\, around 230 AS and A level sc
ience students met a number of scientists\, science educators\, science st
udents and admissions tutors.  The students had the chance to speak to th
e scientists and ask them about their work in science. In addition\, the s
tudents were able to ask admissions tutors about applying to university
to study a STEM subject.\nFollowing the event\, the organiser\, David Cumb
ers\, said: “The event exceeded our expectations\, the conversations and
questions generated were of a very high quality\, and our students gained
a lot from hearing about real life science from real live scientists.”
