 ancial instability rocking the foundations of some of the oldest nation st
 ates. Global businesses struggling to adapted in an ever more agile market
 s\, and the domino effect of political turbulence destabilising regions of
  the world by reverberating far beyond country boundaries. Within this con
 text we have witnessed the emergence of new digital technologies driving c
 hange across the world. Change to meet the need for improved\, more effici
 ent and new services that radically change the way we work\, communicate\,
  think and live – especially in dense city environments. Change that ass
 ists us to navigate through the disruption around us while also perpetuati
 ng further innovation. As an adviser to the Mayor of London from 2008 to 2
 012 on transport\, environment and digital\, I shall discuss the implicati
 ons of the challenges and change we experienced and delivered in London\, 
 and why I believe we are at a point of immense opportunity for global citi
 es.\nBiography\n\n\n\n\nIn May 2008 Kulveer was appointed to lead on polic
 y direction for transport on behalf of the Mayor of London\, Boris Johnson
 . His responsibilities included overseeing the relationship between the Gr
 eater London Authority and Transport for London and sitting on the board o
 f TfL. From 2008-11 he advised on all transport modes and infrastructure p
 rojects\, developed the new 20 year Mayor’s Transport Strategy\, negotia
 ted directly with government ministers\, including successfully supporting
  the case for £14bn Crossrail scheme. He ensured the development of the n
 ew Routemaster Bus and led the delivery of the successful ‘Boris Bike’
  cycle hire scheme. From 2011-12 he advised the mayor on environmental is
 sues. Establishing key programme areas for greening the city\, delivering 
 cleaner air and retrofitting London’s building stock.In 2011 Kulveer als
 o created the Mayor’s Digital London office. He established the mayor’
 s digital strategy focusing on improving city wide connectivity. He led th
 e development of new digital platforms for public engagement including gro
 wing the London Data store and working with the Prime Minister’s office 
 to support the growth of the technology cluster ‘Tech City’ in East Lo
 ndon.He is currently Director for Special Projects\, in the Global Managem
 ent Team for Serco Plc. He also sits on the Digital City Exchange research
  board for Imperial College London. He has spoke at numerous conferences i
 ncluding the World Intelligent Cities Summit\, Istanbul (Sept)\, World Sma
 rt Cities Forum\, Barcelona (Nov) and the Moscow Urban Forum (Dec 2012).Be
 fore joining the Mayor’s Office\, Kulveer spent almost ten years in mana
 gement consultancy with The Nichols Group. His clients included the Depart
 ment for Transport\, Network Rail and London Underground. During this peri
 od his primary focus was on delivering major transport projects in London\
 , this included a key role in the successful delivery of the Oystercard in
  2003.Kulveer is also a former Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party wit
 h responsibility for Cities and has been an advisor to the Shadow Secretar
 y of State for the Dept of Trade & Industry\, Alan Duncan MP. He stood as 
 a Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservative Party in the 2005 General E
 lection.\n \n\n\n\n
