  with Merlyn LowtherMerlyn’s executive career was spent with the Bank of
  England and covered statistical and economic research\; foreign exchange\
 , money and gilt markets policy and operations\; personnel\; and banking. 
 In 1999 she was appointed Chief Cashier\, in which role she was the signat
 ory of all Bank of England banknotes. She was the first woman to hold this
  office.\nIn 2004 she gave up her executive career to pursue a broader ran
 ge of interests. She is currently a non-executive director of Schroders pl
 c\, an advisor to a property company and a Trustee of two grant-making cha
 rities. \nMerlyn has a mathematics degree from Manchester University\, an 
 MBA from London Business School and an MA from the Central School of Speec
 h and Drama. Manchester University has also awarded her an honorary doctor
 ate. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers\, a Companion o
 f the Institute of Management and a Fellow of the RSA. Her leisure interes
 ts centre on theatre and singing. She is married with two adult children.\
