Hearts

Thought relationships were complicated already? Try being our researchers Tom Versluys and Ewan Flintham. It turns out there’s a lot of science behind mating choice.

Tom focuses on the human aspect of sexual selection and uses a huge amount of data to look at whether humans choose similar mates to themselves, and if that has an effect on fitness outcomes and viability. Ewan looks at how our choice in mate affects traits within a population. From lions to frogs, the evolution of a species is directly impacted by sexual behaviour and mate choice, but is there a risk of evolutionary suicide if the ‘wrong’ traits are maintained?

For two hours both Tom and Ewan will be answering questions LIVE on Reddit. There’s no question too strange in the weird and wonderful world of sex and mating!
