SUMMARY:The role of genetics in determining cancer risk
DESCRIPTION:Developing cancer is associated with a wide range of environmen
tal\, lifestyle and genetic factors. However\, these known risk factors do
not completely account for the incidence of specific tumour types or canc
er overall. In this seminar two experts will talk about their work investi
gating the role of genetic factors in cancer using different methodologica
l approaches\, the interplay of genetics with other risk factors and how t
his research can be used in cancer screening.\nSpeakers\nDavid C Muller is
a Lecturer in Cancer Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Faculty of Med
icine\, School of Public Health at Imperial College London. His field of i
nterest is in cancer risk prediction using population-based approaches.\nR
osalind Eeles is a Professor of Oncogenetics at the Institute of Cancer Re
search and clinician at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. She has a
particular interest in the genetics of prostate cancer and cancer screenin
