The recent IPCC Synthesis report provides a stark reminder of the scale of the threat posed by climate change. With only five months left until the next UN climate negotiations, governments worldwide have a vital role to play in ensuring a successful outcome at COP28 in Dubai, by raising ambition both at the domestic and international level.

Taking place midway between COP27 and COP28, this event will bring together climate negotiators, policy experts, and scientists to discuss what steps are needed to ensure COP28 catalyses meaningful action to limit global temperature rise and to address the impacts of a changing climate.

The event will feature expert speakers including,

  • Jacob Werksman, lead climate negotiator for the European Union, European Commission
  • Prof Sir Brian Hoskins, Chair of the Grantham Institute
  • Dr Friederike Otto, Head of World Weather Attribution and Senior Lecturer in Climate Change at Imperial College London
  • Tracy Carty, Global Climate Politics Expert at Greenpeace
  • Chris Skidmore, MP
  • HE Ambassador Majid al-Suwaidi, Director General of COP28 and Special Representative of the UAE

The panel debate will be followed by a networking lunch, providing an opportunity for further discussions on climate action.

This invite-only event is hosted by the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment, the Embassy of Italy in the UK and the Delegation of the European Union to the UK.
