Tidal deformability and symmetries of black holes

It is well known that asymptotically flat black holes in general relativity have a vanishing static tidal deformability. In the talk, I will show that this is the consequence of a hidden structure of ladder symmetries governing static perturbations around black holes. I will discuss their interpretation at the level of the object’s point-particle effective action and review recent results in the context of black hole perturbation theory.
