Analysing household studies to decipher the drivers of infectious disease transmission, susceptibility and infectivity.

In this presentation, I will showcase how household studies can provide rich insights about infectious disease transmission, susceptibility and infectivity. In particular, I will show how the collection of new types of data in these studies offer exciting venues to better characterize factors explaining heterogeneity in transmission such as case viral loads (in the context of SARS-CoV-2) or different types of antibodies (in the context of influenza). I will discuss key methodological challenges, the lack of adequate software and the importance of collecting household contact data to mitigate the risk of bias in future studies.
