Short Bio: 

Kate is Deputy Director of the Educational Development Unit and a Principal Lecturer in the Centre for HE Research and Scholarship (CHERS) at Imperial College, London. She is Director of Postgraduate Studies and was Programme Director of Imperial’s Master’s in University Learning and Teaching (ULT) between 2016 – 2024.  She teaches and supervises on all 3 levels of this part-time MEd programme and teaches undergraduates on the iExplore Science of Learning module. Kate is the co-chair of the CLCC-CHERS Faculty Education Committee and member of the Programmes Committee and Faculty of Natural Sciences Education Committee. Prior to joining Imperial College in 2013 Kate spent 6 years as an Educationalist at the Royal College of Physicians, leading the UCL/RCP PG Medical Education programmes and running Doctors as Educators courses.  Previously Kate was a lecturer on the PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at Brunel University. Kate completed a Masters in Higher and Professional Education at the Institute of Education in 2005 and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  She completed a part-time PhD at Imperial College entitled: Socially constructing emotion in STEMM university learning and teaching: Implications for emotion-informed curricula and engagement. Kate also has a particular interest in how students learn from role modelling and making university teaching and learning inclusive of all students. Awards 2018 Excellence Fund for Learning and Teaching Innovation used to develop face to face and online workshop Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties / Differences: Inclusive strategies for learning 2017 President’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Excellence in Supporting the Student Experience 2017 Finalist in Higher Education Academy Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence Imperial College Student Academic Choice Award (SACAs) nominee 2015, 2016 and 2017.
