Outreach

This exhibition marks 50 years of schools outreach at Imperial College London – an anniversary of connection, inspiration, and opportunity.

Ever since 1975 when the Pimlico Connection first paired Imperial undergraduates with local school pupils, outreach and engagement have become a core part of Imperial’s mission. What began with a handful of volunteers has grown into a vibrant programme that reaches thousands of young people from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds each year.

This exhibition celebrates the people behind this legacy: the staff, students, teachers, partners and young people who have shaped and been shaped by outreach. Through portraits and personal stories, we explore what outreach means – from building confidence, to widening access to STEM careers, and ultimately creating lasting change within communities.

Together, these stories form a powerful reflection of the past 50 years of outreach – and a vision for the next 50.
