SUMMARY:Bridges: Becoming an Effective University Student
DESCRIPTION:In the first part of this workshop\, we will share practical st
rategies that can support you with your transition from learning at school
to learning at Imperial\, based on our recent Learning Well research proj
ect. Drawing on focus group data that explored the lived experiences of 11
2 Imperial undergraduate students\, we will highlight different factors th
at can influence how you ‘learn well’ and suggest evidence-informed wa
ys to navigate these effectively. In the second half of the workshop\, the
re will be opportunities to discuss and explore these ideas with Bridges p
eer guides.\nThis event is part of the Bridges Programme.\nThe Bridges Pro
gramme is designed to support undergraduate students from underrepresented
backgrounds and identities within the Faculty of Natural Sciences in thei
r transition from school into University and strengthen the networks of st
udents and staff across all years.   Our goal is to ensure that all stude
nts feel a strong sense of belonging and have the resources they need to t
hrive both academically and socially during their time at Imperial. \nPee
r guides are available to share their experiences and insights to help you
navigate various aspects of university life\, such as maintaining a work/
life balance\, applying to internships\, and helping acclimatize to univer
sity life.\nThere are also Bridges events and workshops throughout the aca
demic year\, which are designed to support you in enhancing your academic
skills\, build your networks and connect with other students from similar
 backgrounds.
