SUMMARY:Particle Cosmology Seminar- Nadine Nussbaumer
DESCRIPTION:Light scalars in de Sitter: the stochastic story\nLight\, polyn
omially self-interacting scalars in de Sitter notoriously\ngenerate infrar
ed (IR) divergences: on superhorizon scales\, their\nfluctuations grow so
large that perturbation theory breaks down. We\naddress this problem using
non-perturbative techniques from stochastic\ninflation\, by encoding the
superhorizon dynamics in a probability\ndistribution involving composite o
perators of the light scalar. We find\nthat these composites behave as lat
 e-time conformal primaries\, with\ntheir position-space four-point functio
n collapsing to a strikingly\nsimple power law. We conjecture a new physic
al picture: light\ninteracting scalars in de Sitter effectively hadronize
on superhorizon\nscales\, producing a tower of composite states. We then e
xplore whether\nthis emergent spectrum can be captured within a weakly cou
pled effective\nfield theory\, which would amount to recasting the stochas
tic scalar\nIR-dynamics in terms of new\, effective degrees of freedom.
