SUMMARY:Jameel Institute Symposium: ‘Heath economics for improving popula
 tion health under constrained budgets’
DESCRIPTION:As health systems worldwide face tighter budgets\, the need to
allocate resources for maximum impact has never been more urgent. In many
low-and middle-income countries (LMICs)\, public spending on health remain
s limited and often poorly aligned with the most cost-effective interventi
ons. For example\, in sub-Saharan Africa\, less than a third of the $16 pe
r capita government health spend reaches high-impact services. In contrast
\, high-income countries grapple with escalating health and social care co
sts\, driven by ageing populations and growing demand\, forcing difficult
 trade-offs even in better-resourced systems. \n \nEver increasing costs
of treatment and rising pandemic risks driven by climate change\, urbanisa
tion\, human-animal interactions and global mobility highlight the importa
nce of investing in prevention and primary care.  \n \nThis annual sympo
sium brings together academics and policymakers to explore practical\, evi
dence-based strategies to deliver better health outcomes within constraine
d budgets. The day includes presentations of the latest research\, a panel
with decision-makers from diverse settings\, interactive breakout session
s\, and the launch of DAEDALUS Explore – a new pandemic simulation tool
 from the Jameel Institute.
