DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Imperial Science Cafe – Unearthing the h
 idden weaknesses of dormant cancer: Turning vulnerability into treatment 
  at Maggie’s West London.\nEvie Wren\, PhD student \, will explore how d
 ormant cancer cells form\, how they survive while under constant stress\, 
 and what keeps them alive. Using new laboratory models developed in the la
 b\, they are identifying the key proteins these cells rely on to survive.\
 nBy targeting these survival processes\, they hope to push dormant cells b
 eyond their limits — causing them to die or preventing them from waking 
 up. Ultimately\, this research aims to reduce the number of patients who r
 eturn to clinic with relapsed breast cancer by stopping the disease be-for
 e it has a chance to come back.\nDr. Erika Dorado works at the intersectio
 n of cancer bi-omarker discovery in body fluids and the development of inn
 ovative technologies for early cancer detection.\nHer research focuses on 
 studying cellular communication processes and tumour–host interactions m
 ediated by tiny particles circulating in body fluids known as extracellula
 r vesicles (EVs).\nShe will talk about her research on EVs and the novel E
 V-MASS technology for cancer detection\, funded by CRUK.\nFor more informa
