SUMMARY:Professor Natasja de Groot – Intraoperative Mapping: From Mechan
 istic Insight to Clinical Impact
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues and Students\,\nNHLI will be holding a talk on
Tuesday\, 19 May from Professor Natasja de Groot\, Erasmus University.\nTa
lk Title: Intraoperative Mapping: From Mechanistic Insight to Clinical Im
 pact\nTime: 13:00 – 14:00 UK time\nLocation: Meeting room 427/428 4th Fl
 oor ICTEM\, Hammersmith Campus\, Du Cane Road W12 0NN\n\n\nIntroduction\n\
n\nProf. Dr. Natasja MS de Groot\, FEHRA works as senior cardiologist-elec
trophysiologist. She is appointed as full-time professor in the Erasmus Me
dical Center and the Technical University in Delft. She is also a Medical
Delta Professor. She is experienced in device implantations and catheter a
blation procedures with a variety of mapping/ablation technologies includi
ng remote magnetic/robotic navigation and a diversity of electro-anatomica
l mapping techniques. Main foci of her clinical work include: 1) catheter
ablation of complex tachyarrhythmias such as post-operative tachyarrhythmi
as in patients with congenital heart disease\, 2) catheter ablation in pae
diatric patients.\n\n\nField(s) of expertise\n\n\n\n\nHer research project
s are aimed at unravelling the pathophysiology of complex cardiac tachyarr
hythmias\, developing and testing developing novel diagnostic tools (in cl
ose collaboration with TU Delft) and therapies for cardiac arrhythmias. Ma
in research topics are high resolution mapping studies of cardiac arrhythm
ias in particular atrial fibrillation\, mechanisms of (post-operative) atr
ial fibrillation\, dysrhythmias in patients with congenital heart disease
and neuromodulation of atrial fibrillation. For this purpose\, she has dev
eloped a unique way of recording and processing cardiac signals to perform
mapping procedures.\nHer innovative scientific contributions include:\n\n
\n\n\ndiscovery of novel mechanisms underlying persistence of atrial fibri
llation\nintroduction endovascular mapping approach guiding ablative thera
py of atrial tachyarrhythmias in patients with congenital heart disease\nd
evelopment of a novel\, intra- operative epicardial mapping approach.\ndis
covery of the role of Bachmann’s bundle in development of atrial tachyar
rhythmias\nperformed worldwide the first high resolution mapping studies i
n pediatric patient\ndiscovery conduction properties in pediatric patients
  with congenital heart disease\n
