SUMMARY:SPC Seminar – Plasma – Chris Armstrong (CLF)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Chris Armstrong (CLF)\nTitle: Energetic Detectors for
 Laser-Plasma Interactions\nAbstract: High-intensity laser–plasma interac
tions generate bright\, energetic radiation through mechanisms capable of
producing multimodal emission in femtosecond-scale pulses. Characterisatio
n of this radiation remains a significant challenge owing to its high brig
htness\, ultrashort duration\, broad spectral content\, and harsh backgrou
nd environment.\nAccurate characterisation of the emitted radiation is ess
ential for the continued development of laser-driven radiation sources and
their applications in fusion energy\, space radiation studies\, and ultra
fast imaging. The design of suitable detectors and diagnostics requires ba
lancing device sensitivity and resolution against a detailed understanding
of the operational radiation environment. Here\, we present the considera
tions informing the design of diagnostic systems for the upcoming EPAC fac
ility\, and present some of the tools developed to help with performance m
 odelling and deployment in experiments.
