SUMMARY:Developing a Sustainable Research Computing Environment at UK Unive
 rsities
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from speakers working on green and sustainable
research computing at institutions across the UK and celebrate the launch
of our new Digital Research Sustainability short course:\n\n \nWith the m
arch towards ever more computational research across almost all domains\,
green and sustainable approaches to research computing are now a key item
on the agenda of many university sustainability teams. As researchers rapi
dly adopt the use of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs)\, alongside so ma
ny other industries\, the volume\, cost and environmental impact of the co
mputing we use is both a common talking point and a challenge for employer
s and individuals alike.\n\n\n \nThis event\, jointly hosted by the Susta
inable Institutional Research Computing Culture project at Imperial Colleg
e London (supported via Research England Research Culture funding) and the
EPSRC-funded STEP-UP project\, will mark the launch of our new Digital Re
search Sustainability short course and provide a chance to bring together
researchers\, sustainability policy and strategy experts and other members
of research community interested in this area.\n\n\nThe event will includ
e talks from members of the Imperial team working on developing the Digita
l Research Sustainability course and undertaking work on developing a sust
ainable institutional research computing culture including Anna Korre\, As
sociate Provost (Sustainability)\, Christopher Cave-Ayland\, Research Soft
ware Engineering Technical Lead and Hannah Scott\, Head of Sustainability
for Property and ICT.\nWe’ll also be hearing from experts from across th
e UK research community who are working to support the development of gree
n and sustainable research computing practices and structures including Lo
ïc Lannelongue\, Cambridge Sustainable Computing Lab\, Liz Ing-Simmons\,
Kings e-research\, Martin Juckes\, Oxford Climate Research Network and Cat
 erina Doglioni\, University of Manchester.\n
