SUMMARY:Understanding fetal growth and preterm birth
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, millions of babies are born prematurely\, and many
face significant health challenges both at birth and later in life. At th
e same time\, fetal growth restriction affects up to 10% of pregnancies\,
with the most severe cases linked to poor outcomes\, including stillbirth.
\nResearchers across the AHSC are working to improve our understanding of
why babies are born too soon\, how risk can be identified earlier\, and t
o help clinicians to make crucial decisions about the timing of birth for
growth-restricted babies. \nIn this seminar\, two experts will talk about
their research on understanding fetal growth and preterm birth and answer
your questions: \n\nProfessor Christoph Lees is a Professor of Obstetrics
at Imperial College London\, Honorary Consultant in Obstetrics and Head of
Fetal Medicine at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Professor Lees w
ill talk about his research on fetal growth restriction.\nDr Lynne Sykes i
s a Clinical Associate Professor at the Institute of Reproductive and Deve
lopmental Biology\, Imperial College London and a Consultant Obstetrician
at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr Sykes will talk about her res
 earch on preterm labour.\n
