SUMMARY:Using preclinical models towards translation and a precision medici
 ne approach in liver cancer
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Professor Tom Bird\, Consultant Hepat
ologist and Professor of Hepatobiliary Cancer at the University of Edinbur
gh\, to speak at our upcoming seminar.\nProfessor Bird’s research and cl
inical practice focus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)\, the most common
form of liver cancer. Following a PhD in liver regenerative biology at the
University of Edinburgh\, he has established a distinguished career bridg
ing fundamental cancer biology and clinical translation. He leads a basic
science research group at the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute\, wher
e his team investigates the mechanisms underpinning HCC and develops preci
sion medicine approaches by comparing preclinical models with human cancer
.\nBased at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary and working closely with the Sco
ttish Liver Transplant Unit\, Professor Bird is also involved in a number
of early-phase clinical studies focused on HCC therapies and early detecti
on strategies. His work aims to translate biological insights into improve
d outcomes for patients with liver cancer.\nWe look forward to welcoming P
rofessor Bird and hearing about his latest research in liver cancer biolog
y\, early detection and precision oncology.
