SUMMARY:How cancer cells diversify their genomes
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Professor Sarah McClelland from the
Barts Cancer Institute\, Queen Mary University of London as our guest spe
aker for the upcoming Division of Cancer Seminar. Professor McClelland is
an internationally recognised cancer biologist whose research focuses on u
nderstanding the molecular mechanisms that drive chromosomal instability i
 n cancer.\nProfessor McClelland leads a research programme investigating h
ow abnormalities in chromosome number and structure arise in tumour cells
and contribute to cancer evolution\, drug resistance and poor patient outc
omes. Her laboratory studies chromosomal instability across several cancer
  types\, including ovarian\, pancreatic\, prostate and colorectal cancers\
, with the ultimate aim of identifying new therapeutic vulnerabilities and
improving treatment strategies for patients. \nSince establishing her la
boratory at the Barts Cancer Institute in 2013\, Professor McClelland has
made significant contributions to our understanding of genome instability
and chromosome segregation in cancer. Her work has been published in leadi
ng journals including Nature\, Cancer Research\, Genome Biology\, EMBO Jou
rnal and Cell Reports\, and is supported by major funding from organisatio
ns including Cancer Research UK the Medical Research Council and the Biote
chnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. \nWe look forward to w
elcoming Professor McClelland and hearing about her latest research into t
he origins\, consequences and therapeutic opportunities associated with ch
 romosomal instability in cancer.
