SUMMARY:An ocean without a sea: interacting planetary edge currents in the
  absence of a chiral anomaly
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Henry Legg (St Andrews)\nAbstract: \n Chiral edge
states in the quantum Hall effect are protected by a chiral anomaly\, whic
h physically is spectral flow through a filled Dirac sea. I will investiga
te whether chiral planetary edge states\, namely the Kelvin wave\, possess
a similar level of protection to quantum Hall edge states. An important c
onclusion will be that\, unlike the quantum Hall case\, the ocean does not
have a sea. My findings may – but probably do not – have relevance to
  understanding the El Niño-Southern Oscillation.\nhttps://legg.wp.st-andr
