SUMMARY:Electricity infrastructure and planning in the energy transition
DESCRIPTION:This webinar focuses on policy solutions to the core challenge
of the energy transition – how do we balance national mitigation objecti
ves with local acceptability? Hosted by the Hitachi-Imperial Centre for De
carbonisation for Natural Climate Solutions\, we will hear from the author
s of a recent Evidence Brief on the topic.\nMeeting net zero goals require
s the deployment of renewables\, batteries and grid infrastructure\, yet h
ost communities may resist these efforts. Resistance focuses on a range of
issues including visual\, noise\, biodiversity or heritage impacts\, and
a general perception that those affected bear a burden but do not receive
benefits. Our research focuses on solutions to redress this imbalance betw
een perceived costs and benefits\, and especially solutions that improve p
lanning processes or allow communities to financially benefit.
