SUMMARY:Structures Seminar: Controlling Fracture in Topological Maxwell Lat
 tices (Dr. Leo De Waal)
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nCan we design structures to control how cracks propa
gate? In this talk\, I explore how geometry and topology influence stress
localization and fracture in Maxwell lattices. Through numerical and exper
imental investigations\, we identify key geometric parameters governing da
mage\, opening pathways to architect structures that guide\, divert\, and
arrest cracks.\nBio:\nMy research focuses on using geometry to control def
ormation\, damage\, and failure in structural systems. I am particularly i
nterested in origami-inspired structures and topological mechanics\, with
the goal of designing more efficient\, resilient\, and adaptable structure
