SUMMARY:Astrophysics Weekly Seminar: Prof. Ludovic van Waerbeke – Can dar
k energy emerge from the standard model of particle physics?
DESCRIPTION:Title\nCan dark energy emerge from the standard model of partic
le physics?\nAbstract\nThe discovery of cosmic acceleration established da
rk energy as one of the central problems in cosmology. In the standard cos
mological model\, dark energy is described by a cosmological constant\, ye
t its extremely small value remains difficult to reconcile with expectatio
ns from quantum field theory. Recent DESI results\, combined with other co
smological probes\, suggest that dark energy may evolve with cosmic time.
In this talk\, I will first review the observational evidence for dark ene
rgy\, what current data tell us about its properties\, and why evolving da
rk energy is theoretically challenging. I will then discuss the possibilit
y that dark energy may not require a new particle or field\, but could ins
tead emerge from known but overlooked physics within the Standard Model of
  particle physics.
