SUMMARY:LGBT History Month edit-a-thon
DESCRIPTION:Wikipedia – the world’s largest online encyclopedia – ove
rwhelmingly recognises the achievements of white men.\nThis event is your
chance to help change that by learning how to become a Wikipedia author an
d editor then putting that knowledge into practice straight away to start
chronicling the achievements of LGBTQ+ people on this online platform.\nTh
is practical session will be led by Imperial’s very own Jess Wade and he
r colleague Maryam Zaringhalam\, a DC-based biologist who now works in sci
 ence policy\, advocacy\, and communication.\nJess has been on a one-woman
mission for several years to record the scientific contributions of women
and other under-represented communities by creating new Wikipedia entries
nightly. To date\, she’s written over 1\,000 articles!\nYou’ll also ge
t to hear more about the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility from our special
guest speaker\, Oxford University’s Dr Clara Barker\, who will introduce
the event.\nHelp us get a head start at this event by using this Qualtric
s form to nominate LGBTQ+ people who you believe deserve a Wikipedia entry
 .
