SUMMARY:2nd Stochastic Transport in Upper Ocean Dynamics Annual Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Summary: After the success of STUOD first workshop\, we are thr
illed to be back with another educational and inspirational event. “Stoc
hastic Transport in Upper Ocean Dynamics” (STUOD) project is the highly
prestigious ERC Synergy Grant\, led by Imperial College London\, National
Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automatic Control (INRIA) a
nd the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER). Th
e project aims to deliver new capabilities for assessing variability and u
ncertainty in upper ocean dynamics. It will provide decision makers a mean
s of quantifying the effects of local patterns of sea level rise\, heat up
take\, carbon storage and change of oxygen content and pH in the ocean. It
s multimodal monitoring will enhance the scientific understanding of marin
e debris transport\, tracking of oil spills and accumulation of plastic in
the sea.\nIn September 2021\, STUOD is planning to host the 2nd Annual Wo
rkshop which will focus on a range of fundamental topic areas\, including:
\n1. observations at high resolution of upper ocean properties such as tem
 perature\, salinity\, topography\, wind\, waves and velocity\;\n2. large s
cale numerical simulations\;\n3. data-based stochastic equations for upper
ocean dynamics that quantify simulation error\;\n4. stochastic data assim
ilation to reduce uncertainty.\nScientific Committee:\n\nProf Darryl Holm
(Imperial College of London)\,\nProf Bertrand Chapron (Ifremer)\,\nProf Da
n Crisan (Imperial College of London)\,\nProf Etienne Mémin (INRIA).\n\nP
rogramme and Format: This 4-day event will include individual presentation
s\, snapshot presentations and demos. The speakers include leading mid-car
eer and senior researchers as well as early-career researchers. This forum
will yield opportunities for: investigators at an early stage of their ca
reer to have discussions with established scientist\, fostering potential
future research collaborations\, networking as well as inclusion and train
ing of the next generation of researchers.\nThe programme is available her
e\nSpeakers’s slides are available below: \n\nProf Bertrand Chapron (IF
REMER)\nProf Dan Crisan (ICL)\nProf Darryl Holm (ICL)\nProf Etienne Memin

complete this form. Please make sure that an accurate email address is in
cluded so that you can receive a link to the on-line event.\nWorkshop deli
very: We are currently planning to deliver this workshop in person if it i
s safe to do so. However\, please be assured we are also planning to utili
se online modes of delivery if this is needed. We will continue to update
you via email as we receive and respond to further Government guidance and
as our plans develop.\nRecordings: The recordings from the workshop are a
vailable on the STUOD EU YouTube channel\n
