SUMMARY:Vascular Science Seminar Talk – Cellular Connections with Fibrino
 lysis
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 04th October we will be welcoming speaker Professo
r Nicola J Mutch to the Vascular Science Seminar Series.\nDetails as follo
 ws:\nDate: Wednesday 04th October\nTime: 1 – 2pm (UK time) – please no
te this new time going forward for all VS seminar talks\nTalk title: Cellu
lar Connection with Fibrinolysis\nHosted by Professor Anna Randi\nLocation
: Hybrid in person Room 527/528 Justin Mason Seminar 5th Floor\, ICTEM Bui
 lding\, Hammersmith Campus and Online\nShort Bio\nProf Nicola Mutch is a P
ersonal Chair University of Aberdeen\, Scotland.  She carried out her und
ergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Aberdeen speciali
sing in haemostasis\, thrombosis and vascular biology.  She subsequently
moved to the University of Illinois for a post-doctoral position for 4 yea
rs before returning to her first independent position in Cardiovascular Bi
ology at The University of Leeds.  She was awarded a personal fellowship
from the British Heart Foundation and returned to the University of Aberde
en in 2012 to pursue her work and build an independent group.  Prof Mutch
research interests focus on the physiological and pathological mechanisms
underpinning haemostasis\, thrombosis and vascular biology by employing a
translational approach from basic protein biochemistry to modelling throm
bosis and patient-based studies.  The overarching goal is to understand t
he mechanisms and drivers underpinning these cardiovascular and immunothro
mbotic diseases to develop and define more appropriate and personalised tr
eatment strategies. Prof Mutch has served leadership roles in national and
international haemostasis and thrombosis community\, including the Intern
ational Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis\, including Chair of the SSC
of the ISTH\; Chair of the Fibrinolysis subcommittee\, Local planning com
mittee for ISTH London 2022 and current Chair of the Annual Congress Plann
ing Committee. She is Past Chair of the International Society of Fibrinoly
sis & Proteolysis and current President of the British Society of Haemosta
sis & Thrombosis. Prof Mutch serves on the Editorial board of the Journal
of Thrombosis & Haemostasis\, as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Card
iovascular Disease\, Thrombosis section and is an Editor of Platelets.\nTa
lk Description\nThe talk will describe how firbinolysis\, the process of t
he breakdown of fibrin\, and plasminogen activation\, generation of plasmi
n\, are regulated on different cellular surfaces via various binding partn
ers.  It will discuss the importance of shear stress in these reactions a
nd importantly reveal that there are distinct differences in the behaviour
of the plasminogen activators tPA and uPA.\nA Vascular Science Seminar se
ries site on MS Teams has been created for you to sign up to and join to b
e able to attend the seminar if you are joining online. To do so please cl
ick this link  which will request access to the Team site and Seminar if
you are not already a member. \nPlease do this ahead of the seminar talk.
