SUMMARY:The links between climate change and mental health: What do we know
and what needs to be done about it?
DESCRIPTION:\n\nClimate change impacts not only physical health but also me
ntal health. \n\n\nThis session will summarise: \n\n\n\n\nthe evidence b
ase for how climate change and mental health are deeply connected\; \n\n\
nhow researchers across Imperial are coming together through the Climate C
ares Centre to unpack how people are feeling and support solutions that be
nefit the climate and mental health together\; \n\n\nhow we can all take
mentally and emotionally sustainable action\, together\, towards a future
that centres wellbeing. \n\n\n\n\nAttendees of this session will have the
opportunity to discuss their own experience of climate related concerns a
nd the coping mechanisms they have used. \n\n\nJoin us on 29 February a
t 12pm\n\nat the Grantham Institute Boardroom\, South Kensington (see Gran
tham Institute map)\nonline (by clicking ‘Livestream’ on the event pag
 e www.imperial.ac.uk/events/171944/the-links-between-climate-change-and-m
 ental-health-what-do-we-know-and-what-needs-to-be-done-about-it)\n\nThis e
vent is part of Sustainability Fortnight\, where you will hear from ou
r Climate Cares panellists and to discuss the mental health impacts of
the climate crisis and the solutions that can create a world better for o
ur climate and our minds. \n\nWhat do we already know?  \n\n\nPeople li
ving with mental health conditions\, such as schizophrenia and depression\
, are around three times more likely to die during a heatwave\, while some
communities are experiencing continuous grief and increased risk of condi
tions such as post-traumatic stress disorder due to extreme weather events
.  \n\n\nWithout support\, increasing mental health challenges can limit
the capacity of individuals and communities to take required climate adap
tation and mitigation actions. While the climate crisis is a risk multipli
er for mental health\, conversely climate action is an opportunity to crea
te a world that better supports good mental health. \n\n\n\n\n\nMore on t
his topic\n\n\n\n\nWatch: \n\n\nHow does climate change affect our mental
 health?\n\nAbout Climate Cares\n\nRead: \n\nBriefing paper – ‘The impa
ct of climate change on mental health and emotional wellbeing: current evi
dence and implications for policy and practice’\n\n\nSustainability Fort
