SUMMARY:CIVENG Black History Month: Designing a Better World. Ali Mangera\,
  MEng Dip Arch RIBA
DESCRIPTION:Pre registration not required.\nAbstract\nThe greatest Russian
writer of all time\, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin\, had black ancestry. P
ushkin acknowledged his ancestry\, enabling him to look at the world with
greater objectivity\, simultaneously attached and detached – remote yet
distant.\nObserving the world through a different lens as both an insider
and outsider is deeply rooted within the MYAA process. Architecture can em
power communities as much as it can malign and disenfranchise them. Throug
h a careful and considered approach\, MYAA seeks to harness the power and
possibilities architecture has to offer. In doing so\, we address many top
ical issues of our day: identity\, translocation\, environment and collect
ive engagement.\nAli’s talk at Imperial College London will illustrate s
ome of MYAA’s many projects\, from Regenerative Urbanism in London and e
cological master planning to the design of academic buildings\, and school
s built from earth in deprived communities.\nAli Mangera MEng Dip Arch RIB
