SUMMARY:Abdus Salam Colloquium: Donal O’Connell – Gravitational Radiati
 on from Quantum Fields
DESCRIPTION:Gravitational Radiation from Quantum Fields\nThe era of high-pr
ecision gravitational data requires a demanding new level of precision in
gravitational theory. In this talk I will discuss the use of methods from
quantum field theory to address the challenge. These methods reframe our t
heoretical approach to gravity\, making gravity look like two copies of el
ectrodynamics. We will see that the Schwarzschild metric is a “double co
py” of the Coulomb charge\, and that gravitational waveforms can be dete
rmined without ever using the Einstein equation.
