SUMMARY:Understanding and diagnosing common childhood illnesses
DESCRIPTION:As children grow up they are exposed to a wide variety of commo
n illnesses for which fever is often a unifying symptom. Although in most
cases children will recover well on their own\, sometimes these illnesses
can become more serious. Research is underway at Imperial to understand di
sease mechanisms of common childhood illness\, how to identify those that
are more serious\, and how to treat them. \nIn this seminar\, two experts
will talk about their research on understanding and diagnosing common chil
dhood illnesses and answer your questions: \nDr Vanessa Sancho Shimizu is
a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Associate Professor in Human Genetics of
Infectious Disease. Dr Sancho Shimizu will talk about her research into th
e genetics of common infections.\nProfessor Jethro Herberg is a Professor
of Paediatric Infectious Disease at Imperial College London and Honorary C
onsultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Brompton.
Professor Herberg will talk about his research on new approaches to the d
 iagnosis of fever.
