SUMMARY:HEP seminar: Kai Hong Law (Imperial) – Exploring the dark sector
 at the CMS experiment
DESCRIPTION:The nature of dark matter remains one of the biggest open quest
ions in particle physics. Among the intriguing models beyond the Standard
Model (SM) that provide explanation to dark matter\, hidden valley models
propose a dark sector that extends the SM with a non-Abelian gauge group\,
similar to quantum chromodynamics. A rich phenomenology might result from
portal interactions\, which connect the dark sector with the SM. In this
talk\, I will present the most recent results from CMS that explore the da
rk sector by exploiting dedicated data streams as well as different detect
or signatures. The most stringent limits to date are imposed on several be
nchmark models\, covering a wide range of parameter space.

SUMMARY:Particle Physics Masterclass – Friday 17th July 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Physics at Imperial College London is again h
osting a full day Particle Physics Masterclass.\nWe invite Sixth form Phys
ics students and their teachers to come and find out about the exciting wo
rld of Experimental Particle Physics from one of the largest Particle Phys
ics research groups in the country. We have run the Masterclass successful
ly in a similar format for a number of years.\nThe day will start with an
Introduction to the Group and the experiments and talks about current hot
topics in Particle Physics. After lunch\, the programme will continue and
the students can have a tour of the current undergraduate projects follo
wed by further talks and discussions.\nRegistration\nReservations\, indica
ting the number of students and accompanying teachers\, can be made using
our online registration form. ( TBC)\nPlease note\, this event will be fr
ee of charge\, A maximum number of 10 students per school can attend\, stu
dents may also register to attend individually.\nBooking deadline 9th July
2026\n\nAll attendees will be contacted with further details via email pr
ior to the event.\nPlease contact Particle Physics Community Admin (Paula
Brown and Paula Consiglio) on  fundamental@imperial.ac.uk if you need an
y further information.\nWe are looking forward to seeing you!\nProgramme\n
