Dear Audrey,

I’m afraid that your letter arrived at bad time for the union side and I apologise for our late response.

Thank you for your letter confirming management’s below-inflation pay offer this year.  We are disappointed that management has not taken the opportunity to reconsider and note that you are also continuing with entirely specious arguments conflating a number of different initiatives with the joint trades unions’ basic request that all members of staff are able to maintain the value of their pay. The offer as you have confirmed it robs Peter (all staff) in order to pay Paul (a favoured few) and means a real pay cut for staff who have gone far beyond the call of duty this year. As a result, we cannot recommend it to our members.

We will get back to you when we have consulted our members.
