The Operational Services, Professional Services and Technical Services job families have three levels (levels 1-3) which are further divided into levels a and b.

The aim is to indicate the broad differences between the a and b levels so that:

  • Applicants can consider the guidance and decide if an application for a Job Level Review should be made.  It is important to note that job size is largely to do with relativities, i.e.where does the balance of the job lie – at the a or b level?
  • Review Panels can refer to the guidance when evaluating jobs.

The guidance reflects the three major components of the Hay Job Evaluation system, namely Know-How, Problem Solving and Accountability.
