About the Graduate Finance Training Scheme
The Graduate Finance Training Scheme was started in 2012 and is designed to give successful candidates experience in different areas of finance across the College as well as the opportunity to gain a professional accountancy qualification.
The scheme lasts for three years and is divided into a series of placements. Although the length of each placement will vary, they will usually last for approximately twelve months.
The training scheme is overseen by the Director of Financial Management, Tony Lawrence. Tony will meet with trainees for a one to one every six months to check on their progress and reflect on the next steps in their personal development.
Finance Trainees can expect to gain both operational and project experience in a number of areas. This is likely to include a significant reporting element in the early stages to support their studies, but is also likely to include time in a Finance business partner role in one of the faculties or commercial areas.
Finance Trainees will be expected to complete their study for either the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification during their three years on the scheme and the College will meet the full cost of relevant training courses, exam fees, etc. (assuming first time passes). The decision on whether to qualify through CIMA or ACCA is taken by the trainee and support is available in the department to help you throughout your studies.
It is intended that during the course of the training scheme, all trainees will develop the skills and experience necessary to move into a permanent position at Imperial.
