How do I apply?

Applicants are invited to apply for the scheme through the online form. Visit the Jobs page and search for either "Graduate Management Trainee" or the reference number "PRO00365".  You will be required to fill in the form online and are advised to only upload your statement in either MS Word or PDF format. Please note that CVs will not be accepted.

Can I apply with my CV?

No. All applications must be submitted using the online application form. CVs will not be considered and applicants who have submitted only their CV will be automatically rejected.

Please make sure that your candidate statement is uploaded in either MS Word or PDF format. Please upload your supporting statement in the Attachments section of the application form.

Do I need to upload a supporting statement?

Yes. A supporting statement is required. There is no character, word or page limit for this. Please upload your supporting statement in the Attachments section of the application form in MS Word or PDF format.

I'm having problems with the online application system, what should I do?

Can the College apply for a tier 2 visa under this post?

No. Unfortunately, the College is unable to apply for a certificate of sponsorship for this post under Tier 2 of the UK Visa & Immigration’s Points Based System as this job is not listed as a skilled job in the UKVI Codes of Practice. Applicants who do not have permission to work in the UK would need to obtain permission through an alternative immigration route. Whilst we welcome applications from non-EEA candidates, these applicants would need to provide evidence of their right to work in the UK before an offer of employment could be made.

What is the Disability Confident Scheme?

Can I apply if I haven't studied at Imperial?

Yes. All graduates are eligible to apply for the Graduate Training Scheme irrespective of where they have studied. You are not required to have studied at Imperial previously.

Can I apply if I graduated more than 3 years ago?

No. We ask that applicants have completed their studies within the last three years so you must have graduated in summer 2017 or more recently. Applicants graduating from or who have recently obtained Masters and PhD qualifications will also be considered. If you are not eligible but are interested in a career in higher education, you should be able to find a number of opportunities on the job applicants website.

Can I apply with a lower second-class (2:2) degree?

No. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications we receive each year, we are only able to accept applications from candidates who have achieved a minimum 2:1 at bachelor's level.

Can I apply if I am graduating with a Master's degree or PhD?

Yes. Although we ask that applicants have graduated from university within the last three years you are still eligible to apply if you have graduated with a Master's degree or a PhD within the last three years. However, even if you have a higher degree, you must still have a 2:1 at Bachelor's level to be eligible for the scheme.

How much professional experience are you looking for?

The scheme is designed to provide candidates who do not have extensive professional experience with an introduction to a career in university management. Extensive professional experience does not encompass any defined period of time (provided that you have graduated within the past three years) or any specific employment sectors, but applicants should consider the aim of the scheme is to be introductory in nature.

Is this scheme competitive?

Yes. The Management Training Scheme is always highly oversubscribed and generally we only hire 5 or 6 new management trainees each year. Last year we received over 700 applications.

I applied before and was unsuccessful, can I apply again this year?

Yes, you are welcome to reapply if you were previously unsuccessful.

What is the name-blind recruitment process?

This year we are running a name-blind application process for the Graduate Management Training Scheme as part of the College’s commitment to equality of opportunity and eliminating discrimination. Applicants will be assigned an application reference number and applicants’ names will not be visible to recruiting managers until the interview stage.

Please do not attach your CV as CVs will not be considered. Please also refrain from including your name in your supporting statement. For this purpose, we recommend that you name your supporting statement document ‘Application for the Graduate Management Training Scheme 2020’.
