Duties and responsibilities

As a service provider to the Faculty of Engineering supporting academics in their interactions with industry and commercialisation activities, your main duties will include:

  • Assessment of research discoveries, analysis and evaluation, and advancement of those technologies through to market adoption via collaboration with industry, access to translational funds, licensing or startup formation;
  • Protecting intellectual property through patents and other appropriate forms of intellectual property protection
  • Advising on IP and commercial strategy
  • Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts, in conjunction with our Commercialisation Office
  • Promoting College’s licensing portfolio and securing commercialisation income;

Essential requirements

To be successful in this role you will have a background in material science, chemistry, physics or engineering, preferable evidenced by a PhD with a passion for technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

You will also have some experience in IP management and licensing in an engineering business environment or in a technology venture capital.  A strategic and analytical mindset, strong delivery focus, excellent communication skills coupled with an understanding of the academic environment, product innovation and technology commercialisation processes are also essential, preferably gained through previous experience of working within HEI or industry.

This career opportunity will maximise to the full your experience and interest in roles such as Licensing Officer, Licensing Executive, Commercialisation Manager/Officer, IP Manager and Technology Transfer Manager/Officer within the technology, software, pharmaceutical, chemicals, higher education, government sectors or similar.

This role may be suitable as a secondment for those who would like to progress their career and/or experience working in the Enterprise Division.
