ImageStream Mk II imaging flow cytometer

The ImageStream Mk II Imaging Flow Cytometer combines the speed and phenotyping capabilities of flow cytometry with the morphological insights afforded by microscopy.

This instrument produces multiple high-resolution images of up to 1000 events per second from cells suspended in a stream. These images include brightfield and up to 5 fluorescent markers (or 4 fluorescent markers with brightfield and darkfield [SSC]) from five lasers (405nm, 488nm, 561nm, 640nm with 785nm for SSC). Compared to its predecessor, the new ImageStream Mark II offers a streamlined workflow, greater flexibility, and optimizations for rare cell applications.

Its particular strengths are in the analysis of small subpopulations of cells and in providing robust statistical analysis of two samples (eg stimulated and unstimulated cells). Applications include the study of nuclear translocation, cell-cell interactions, phagocytosis, apoptosis and autophagy and the characterization of circulating tumour cells.
