Sign up to join our new Summer School Program 2020!

What does it involve?

This Year 10 Summer School is an incredible one-time opportunity to experience the world of materials science under a different perspective: the lens of powerful microscopes. Zeiss, world leaders in microscopy, are sponsoring this event to ensure anyone can have the opportunity to take part more closely to the vibrant field of biomaterials.

Get ready to experience hands-on challenges and lectures within the department of materials where you will embark on a journey through the most advanced and innovative materials and techniques used to date. You will be working with world-leading scientists and researchers and will learn from them the amazing advances of materials such as Bioglasses and techniques such as Robocasting and Electrospinning with workshops in the undergraduate laboratories of the Department of Materials at Imperial College London.

You will also go on a visit to Cambridge and will receive a guided tour to the Zeiss complex just outside the town where you will be able to see how microscopes are made and the building process of high-resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy machines.

You will be staying in university halls, experiencing University life in London and having a chance to mingle and talk to your undergraduate and postgraduate mentors during your stay. At the end of the week there will be a group competition where you will be working with your peers on subjects learned during the week and the winner will be awarded a prize from Zeiss and the Department of Materials.
