Children in lab

The NHLI's 'Bring your child to work day' is one of the department’s most popular Athena SWAN initiatives. This annual event gives our staff and students a chance to show their children where they work and allows them to network with other parents in the department. The day is filled with fun science-related activities for children of all ages, and demonstrates the department’s supportive attitude towards a healthy work-life balance.

My kids always look forward to it, it's a real highlight for them. They take all their science stuff into school for show and tell and proudly wear the mini lab coats."

The 2017 event was re-branded as Bring Your Family to Work Day and was held on 25 October. In the morning guests joined their NHLI family member at their home campus and in the afternoon everyone came together at South Kensington to explore their own heart and lung function using mechanical and digital spirometers and an ECG, carve pumpkins, do art and craft and listen to some short talks. The afternoon ended with a Halloween tea in the Queen’s Tower Rooms and the opportunity to experience the College’s Planetarium. A summary from our 2017 Bring Your Family to Work Day are included in the NHLI blog post Focus on Families.
