Medical Education Ethics Committee
Who to contact
If you have any queries, please contact:
Applications must be submitted by 17:00 on the submission deadline date to allow the Chair of MEEC to review the project and decide if it needs to be reviewed by the full committee.
Investigators can find information to help obtain ethical approval for certain types of proposed medical education-related research. We also explain the routes to obtaining approval.
The Medical Education Ethics Committee (MEEC) is able to review the following types of project:
- Educational Projects that fall outside the remit of ICREC or NRES REC
- Approval for any education study in which recruitment is targeted at Imperial College undergraduate medical students
- Approval of laboratory-based practicals/demonstrations which involve human subjects
Applications to conduct research projects outside of this remit may need to undergo approval via another ethics committee, such as ICREC or NHS REC. If you are unsure whether your study is appropriate for this committee please review the information in the guidance.
Note: projects that involve NHS staff only do not need to undergo ethical review. If your education study is an NHS staff study you will need to get R&D approval at each of the sites where it will be taking place. You will need to contact the sites for their local procedures. If it is an Imperial site, we will need a copy of you R&D form which you can complete at www.myresearchproject.org.uk.
