Diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism

We are an established world-leader in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism research, spanning basic to clinical and population-based research.

Diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism at Imperial College London

The diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism theme applies our genetics, epigenetics, cell biology, metabolic, preclinical model, and clinical trial expertise to the treatment and prevention of a range of common metabolic diseases.

The recently established Imperial Diabetes Research Consortium brings together the broad, world class expertise across the translational pathway. Our researchers work closely with the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and the Faculty of Engineering regarding basic research, from fundamental biology through to developing devices for monitoring and control of metabolism.

Recent achievements include the identification of circuits that control body weight homeostasis, which could provide novel targets for the treatment of obesity.

Research areas

Through the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre and NIHR Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, we are able to translate discoveries into useful new treatments that benefit patients and society. In collaboration with Oxford University, we host the NIHR CRN National Diabetes Research Network.
