North West Thames Foundation School

Welcome to the North West Thames Foundation School

Forming the bridge between medical school and core training

The North West Thames Foundation School (NWTFS) is run by Health Education NW London, incorporating Foundation Training Programmes within linked NHS Trusts.  The Foundation Programme is a two year generic training programme designed for medical school graduates. The programme forms the bridge between medical school and core training.  It is designed to give Foundation Doctors a range of experience before choosing an area of medicine in which to specialise, and delivers an integrated educational programme with defined outcomes.

The Foundation School co-ordinates the allocation processes to Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2, and supports the delivery of Foundation Training and the development of Foundation Doctors.

NWTFS is committed to providing high quality Foundation Training in all our linked Trusts, and works within the General Medical Council Standards for Training for the Foundation Programme. Further information on all aspects of Foundation training can be found on The Foundation Programme website.

NWTFS has 261 two-year Foundation Training Programmes in six Health Education North West London (HENWL) trusts and one Health Education East of England (HEEoE) trust as well as 27 Academic Foundation Training Programmes.

For information on how the School organises Foundation Training please read the document  General Information About NWTFS 2016.
