FoNS Student Staff Committees

The Faculty Student-Staff Committees normally meet once each term. In these meetings student representatives make the opinions of students known to staff in an informal and non-confrontational environment. Students are elected to their roles via the Imperial College Union which take place at the beginning of the academic year. If you are interested in becoming a student representative, please see the Imperial College Union website or contact your Department. If elected, training will be provided by the Imperial College Union.

Terms of Reference

To provide a forum to discuss academic and non-academic matters that are relevant to students in more than one Department within the Faculty (including e.g. welfare and accommodation) and for which a perspective broader than that possible in a Departmental Student-Staff Committee would be valuable.
To share good practice across the Faculty’s Departments.
To allow student representatives to interact constructively with Faculty staff to explore ways to improve the educational experience in the College.

Actions arising from these meetings will be addressed by the Vice-Dean (Education), Faculty Operating Officer, Department Directors of Studies and Heads of Department.

The Faculty Student-Staff Committee will formally report to the Faculty Education Committee, which in turn reports to Faculty Management Committee and College Programmes Committee. Departmental Student Staff Committees report to their respective Department Teaching Committees, which in turn report to their Department Management Committees.

Membership

The Faculty Student-Staff Committees are Chaired by senior student representatives and attended by student representatives from across the Faculty, plus key staff from the Faculty including the Vice-Dean (Education) and Faculty Senior Tutor, Department Directors of Studies and Senior Tutors.

Agenda items (including papers) should be submitted to the committee secretary one week prior to the committee meeting. Papers will normally be circulated to members one week prior to the committee meeting.
