Summary

Dr Amaral is an epidemiologist at the National Heart and Lung Institute, where he leads a research group whose work focuses on understanding the causes of poor lung function and chronic lung disease in populations around the globe. He is also interested in the mechanisms underlying differences in lung function across ethnic groups and multimorbidity associated with poor lung function. His goal is to contribute to the prevention of chronic lung disease and reduction of mortality worldwide.

Dr Amaral is the Project Lead of the multinational Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) cohort study.
