Summary

Andres is a Research Associate in the Centre for Process Systems Engineering at Imperial College London. His research focuses on multi-scale modelling and optimisation coupled with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to promote a low-carbon industry, also offering his expertise as a consultant.

He is interested in developing efficient strategies to model the scale-up of low-carbon technologies via hybrid multi-scale modelling and superstructure optimisation. Similarly, his interests include exploring how the deployment of these technologies interacts with natural ecological boundaries across different criteria in order to guarantee technical feasibility of such systems and ultimately sustainable development.

His current research, in collaboration with Royal Dutch Shell, focuses on optimising the implementation of solar energy to produce liquid fuels and chemicals. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team at Imperial College, he also looks at the optimisation of low-carbon energy systems through the integration of different models, analysing the detailed operation of such systems across time and regions of the UK.

Andres completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2019, where he worked in the modelling and optimisation of sustainable chemical processes. This included methods such as hybrid modelling, machine learning techniques for surrogate modelling, multi-criteria assessment tools, and novel LCA methods based on the Earth’s resilience.
