Ashley is a second year PhD Student undertaking his PhD within the Inflammation, Repair and Development section of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London. His PhD project focusses on improving the diagnosis and clinical management of pre-school wheeze and school aged asthma by investigation of granulocyte function. His PhD is supervised by Professor Sejal Saglani and Dr James Pease.

Ashley gradated with a First-Class Honours BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2017. During his undergraduate studies Ashley undertook a placement year within the Experimental Medicine Unit, Immuno-inflammation Therapy Area Unit at GlaxoSmithKline where he helped develop PK/PD assays for a phase I biologic for the treatment of IBD and Psoriasis. It was here where he gained an interest in clinical immunology.

Following his undergraduate studies, the Asthma UK Centre for the Allergic Mechanisms in Asthma awarded Ashley funding for a 1 plus 3 PhD Studentship to pursue a PhD. As a part of his PhD programme Ashley undertook an MRes in Biomedical Research at Imperial College London. He joined the inflammation repair and development section of the national heart and lung institute and undertook two laboratory rotations, the first with Dr. Adam Byrne where he investigated the role of exogenous metabolites in the immunometabolic response of airway epithelial cells in chronic lung diseases. In his second project, supervised by Professor Sejal Saglani and Dr. James Pease, Ashley developed flow cytometry and chemotaxis assays to assess granulocyte function in children with school aged asthma where he continued his research into his PhD. Ashley graduated in 2018 with a Distinction in his MRes Degree from Imperial College London.
