New measurements of Ds+ and Ds*+ meson production rates from B decays and from qq̄ continuum events near the Y(4S) resonance are presented. Using 20.8 fb-1 of data on the Y(4S) resonance and 2.6 fb-1 off-resonance, we find the inclusive branching fractions B(B→Ds+ X)=(10.93±0.19±0.58±2.73)% and B(B→Ds*+X)=(7.9±0.8±0.7 ±2.0)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the Ds+→φπ+ branching fraction uncertainty. The production cross sections σ(e+e- →Ds+X) × B(Ds+→φπ+)=7.55±0.20 ±0.34 pb and σ(e+e-→Ds *±X) × B(Ds+→φπ+) = 5.8±0.7±0.5 pb are measured at center-of-mass energies about 40 MeV below the Y(4S) mass. The branching fractions ΣB(B→Ds(*)+ D̄(*))=(5.07±0.14±0.30±1.27)% and ∑B(B→Ds*+D̄(*)) =(4.1±0.2±0.4±1.0)% are determined from the Ds(*)+ momentum spectra. The mass difference m(Ds+)-m(D+)=98.4±0.1 ±0.3 MeV/c2 is also measured.

We have studied the B±→J/ψπ± and B±→J/ψK± decays using a 20.7 fb-1 data set collected with the BABAR detector. We observe a signal of 51±10 B±→J/ψπ± events and determine the ratio B(B± →J/ψπ±)/B(B±→J/ψ K±) to be [3.91±0.78(stat)±0.19(syst)]%. The CP-violating charge asymmetries for the B±→J/ψπ± and B±→J/ψK± decays are determined to be Aπ=0.01±0.22(stat)±0.01(syst) and AK =0.003±0.030(stat)±0.004(syst).

Aubert B, Boutigny D, Gaillard JM, et al., 2001, Measurements of the branching fractions of exclusive charmless B meson decays with eta(') or omega mesons., Phys Rev Lett, Vol: 87, ISSN: 0031-9007
We present the results of searches for B decays to charmless two-body final states containing eta(') or omega mesons, based on 20.7 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector. We find the branching fractions Beta(B(+)-->eta(')K(+)) = (70+/-8+/-5) x 10(-6), Beta(B(0)-->eta(')K(0)) = (42(+13)(-11) +/- 4) x 10(-6), and Beta(B(+)-->omega pi(+)) = (6.6(+2.1)(-1.8) +/- 0.7) x 10(-6), where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. We give measurements of four additional modes for which the 90% confidence level upper limits are Beta(B(+)-->eta(')pi(+)) < 12 x 10(-6), Beta(B(+)-->omega K(+)) < 4 x 10(-6), Beta(B(0)-->omega K(0)) < 13 x 10(-6), and Beta(B(0)-->omega pi(0)) < 3 x 10(-6).

Dauncey PD, Andress JC, Adye TJ, et al., 2000, Design and performance of the level 1 calorimeter trigger for the BaBar detector
Since May 1999 the BaBar detector has been taking data at the PEP-II asymmetric electron-positron collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. California. This experiment requires a very large data sample and the PEP-II accelerator uses intense beams to deliver the high collision rates needed. This poses a severe challenge to the BaBar trigger system, which must reject the large rate of background signals resulting from the high beam currents whilst accepting the collisions of interest with very high efficiency. One of the systems that performs this task is the Level 1 Calorimeter Trigger, which identifies energy deposits left by particles in the BaBar calorimeter. It is a digital, custom, fixed latency system which makes heavy use of high-speed FPGA devices to allow flexibility in the choice of data filtering algorithms. Results from several intermediate processing stages are read out, allowing the selection algorithm to be fully analysed and optimized offline. In addition, the trigger is monitored in real time by sampling these data and cross-checking each stage of the trigger calculation against a software model. The design, implmentation, construction and performance of the Level 1 Calorimeter Trigger during the first year of BaBar operation are presented.
