Background

Andrew (Fred) Marquis gained his MSc and PhD in the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1981 and 1986 respectively. Following a two year post-doctoral appointment he spent four years in industry (Rolls-Royce(Aero) and ICI Chemicals and Polymer) before returning to Imperial College to join the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1991.

Research

The efficient use of liquid fuels and reduction of pollutants in gas turbine combustion chambers is a long term goal of designers and manufactures. The LES-pdf formulation in conjunction with the Eulerian stochastic field solution method has been successfully applied in a range of combusting configurations. This work has led to research supported by Rolls-Royce (UK and Germany) and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery.
