Summary
My research focuses on how the Human T cell leukaemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) causes blood cancer (Adult T cell leukaemia lymphoma, ATL) in ~5% of people who are chronically infected with the virus.
I work in close collaboration with the National Centre for Human Retrovirology and its associated UKAS-accredited Molecular Diagnostic Unit, which develops and provides specialised diagnostics for HTLV-1 carriers.
I am currently split between the Department of Infectious Disease and the Centre for Haematology in the Department of Immunity and Inflammation, where I am developing a novel cell therapy approach for ATL.
